Social Media and the Essential Self? What’s the Connection?

March 29, 2009

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This morning on Twitter I came across this article by Marcia Stepanek called: “The Spinternet”.

social-media

In it she spoke of how there is a growing tendency for government agencies to now be using social media to help in their efforts to once again silence the people and to maintain their control over the masses.

In it she writes: But citizens, beware. It’s getting much harder to use the Web for social change. Challenges to the Web’s potential for democracy and freedom are growing quickly, panelists agreed. “The enemy is getting just as smart in using these same tools to silence people yet again,” said Evgeny Morozov, a Belarussian journalist who is writing a book about censorship and the use of the Internet by authoritarian states.

I found this article very interesting and relevant to the main theme of this blog.

One may ask why authorities and governments have so much power?  I venture to say that it is because each individual is giving the power to them.

The goal of this blog is to lift up the power of the individual to realize that underneath the rubble of what ‘you think you are’ there is an essential being, a person that is unique and created to express itself.

To do so it must take responsibility for itself.

The person that I am, that each individual is, is meant to speak, to express itself.  It has to express what only it can.  No one else can say what you have to say better that yourself. finding-your-voice

However this person has to Sound Through.

It has to find its Voice and express the truth that only IT can.

To do this it must realize that power is not on the outside.  It is from within.

So the person must stop giving away his or her power.  It will do this as it learns to stop long enough to hear and feel, from within, its connection with Source. The moment that happens the person becomes aware of itself as not alone, but as one with Source and hence in possession of power that passes all understanding.  The person is then on the first step to taking up its own power and responsibility for itself.

Why do tyrants or bullies gain power over people?  Because people feel small and intimidated and hence, to avoid the pain of the big stick, they  give power to their oppressors.  But once the person touches source a new awareness dawns and the PERSON begins the Sounding Through process.

Every time the bully hits someone it reinforces in the individual the already well established social lie that “something can be withheld  from me”.

Social media presently is a kind of training zone to teach people that they can say things and be heard.  It is teaching us the power of networking and way to empower ourselves by linking up and communicating.

However, the lesson will be lost and the tyrants will take over again unless the person learns that it is powerful. It will do this by “stoping” long enough to  experience its connection with Source.

I believe that the message of all the great teachers throughout history has been that the individual is free.

For example Jesus said: “I and the Father are One.”  He admonished his followers not to make him a leader in the way of worldly governments.  He also said to them that they would do greater things that he did.  The inference being, each of us is one with the One and we can ‘realize it’.  That is the first step to breaking the pattern of giving up our power.

As the awareness of unity with Source grows, personal expression grows and responsibility for self grows.  As each part realizes that it has power to select and give direction to its life,  it will stop giving outside authority its power.

As each person releases his or her essential self from the rubble of faulty thinking, automatically ‘freedom’ and ‘oneness’ will emerge and the lesson of history will be learned.  I am here to realize my truth.  Only as each person is his or her own person in quiet assurance, can the battle against outside forces be won.  It will automatically dissolve the powers out there by no longer feeding them.

I believe that Oneness is what all the great teachers were pointing to and the purpose of creation is to declare to each of us that we indeed each  have our own individual voice.  As we discover this from deep within–HARMONY– will emerge and we will learn to help each other into the fullness of truth and a glorious manifestation of spontaneous life giving creative expression.

Each person is a vital piece of this creative expression and is meant to Sound Through so that the whole tapestry that is the Universe may vibrate the truth on Oneness and the UNITY that underlies the noise and the confusion of the ages — UNTIL — each ONE wakes up and speaks his or her truth as person, not as who he or she thinks they are.

The purpose of the Universe is and has always been looking to inspire each one to become aware of our UNITY with source and in this way the glorious liberty of the children of God will grow bigger and bigger.

And I believe we have come to an unprecedented tilting point in the process and social media under girded by personal awareness and self expression is the key.   self-expression

In the the peace that passes all understanding enjoy your day.

God Is A Salesman–Do I Have To Sell My Self?

March 23, 2009

I’ve been pondering something for the last coupe of weeks.41hwv7ivibl_sl160_

I have been reading Mark Stevens  book; “God Is A Salesman”.

In it Steven makes the point that a product can not sell itself.  If you want to sell something you must open your mouth and talk about it.  People will not just come, look at it and sell themselves.  No, no, no they will need your help.

Once upon I time I was a book salesman for a whole sale book company.  I did these huge book displays.  I would see all these books lay displayed on a number of tables.  I could feel a certain energy about them as they stood there in view.  But it was just a vibration… I guess they were saying that very thing… don’t just look at us… read us…

Marc Stevens is very outspoken about how much the salesperson must have a strategic plan to sell anything.

How does this apply to spiritual growth and personal development?

It tells me that I must, not only know my self, but I must “articulate” myself.

It’s one thing to think of myself as a certain way but I need to learn to name my value and what it is I bring.

For example this site is me looking to get a handle on that and finding ways to give expression to what has been living in me all of my life.  Somehow that happens through this title of this blog: Sounding Through.

It seems as if 99% of me is made up of all sorts of ideas and concepts about who I ‘thought’ is was.  However, there is the true me who is the liveliness and the orchestrator and this part of me has only had 1% say about who I am.

So today I simply share my struggle with you as a means of sounding through… maybe I could get some feedback.

In any event it’s a wonderful day and it’s great to be a living, lively principle.

I thinks I need some help to release that 1%.

Love you.

Does The Person, Do I, Really Hold The ‘Swing Vote’?

March 21, 2009

swingvote_thumb

Last night I watched an interesting movie, called Swing Vote with Kevin Costner.

What I enjoyed about the movie was the way in which it reduced the social realities we live in to the individual.

It took the world of Politics and it showed us how the various aspects of that world are run by people who get swayed by their own selfish desires and obsessions.

I found the movie boldly looked at the world we live in and its craziness.

It centered in the main character who was a drunk and refused to take any kind of responsibility.  This character named Bud, loved his beer and would have nothing to do with his civil and personal responsibilities.  His young daughter took care of him and covered up for him and kept on believing that her father cared despite the constant evidence that he did not.

The scenario of the movie was not something that could happen in real life.  However, it was well constructed to make the point the movie intended to make.  The plot all boiled down to the character Bud having the ‘swing vote’ in a Presidential election campaign.  The movie displayed societies tendencies through the presidential candidates and their campaign managers and the reporters and so on.

I guess you’ll have to see the movie to get more of the details.

For my purposes here I’ll focus on the last scene of the movie where Bud and the presidential candidates come out of their selfish pursuits and ‘come to their senses’, as it were.

Focusing on the main character, Bud, we see him put away the booze and begin to awaken to his ‘responsibilities’.  He comes out of his drunken stupor.

The movie showed how the collective reality can distract us away from the awareness we need to see the responsibility of the individual in the whole process.  Bud and the Presidential candidates are shown to each come to their senses and to own each their part.  I found it enlightening to see how the whole of society is really reflected in the ‘individual’ and that in fact it is all very simple.  The closing scene has the one man, Bud, facing the two candidates in a debate.

The movie reduced it to simple terms but what became evident to me is that what happens in ‘each’ individual is what determines happens in broader society.  So it is legitimate, it seems to me, to recognize that I am reflected in society and society is a reflection of me.  To the degree that I take my personal responsibility, to that degree, society will be more responsible.

Bud, was lost in a drunken stupor.  Society is lost in its craziness.  How does it change?

It changes when “I” take my responsibility and I awaken from my avoidances.  When I stop running away from my pain and I choose to ‘wake up’, to notice the good all around me and to express gratitude, then things change.

The ‘person’ I am is buried by mounds of beliefs and fears and doubts and can not ‘sound through’.  It’s easy to blame the world ‘outside’ of me of being crazy and the reason for my craziness.

Yet, its a two way street!

I believe that, yes, the individual does hold the ‘Swing Vote’.  Before society can change,  I need to change.

I need to stop blaming and finding ways to keep myself  from waking up to my greatness.  When I stop sedating myself with my booze or whatever medication I use to run away from my truth, I will come to realize that the world outside also will change.  It never starts, ‘out there’.  It always begins within ‘here’.

As I come out of my drunken stupor, the rest of the world will.  It may not happen right away.  Like the daughter in the movie, I may need to see the drunk as whole, long before he is, and contrary to the evidence, but by so doing I will contribute to the change I desire to see.

I will first be the change I want to see in the world.  I hold the ‘Swing Vote’.

Have and awesome day!

Peace…

Immaculate Conception Happens When The Will Holds The Focus.

March 16, 2009

This morning I am focused on the relationship between ‘will’ and ‘imagination’.

These are initial thoughts to help my focus concerning this process.

I’ve been reading Thomas Troward’s The Law and the Word. Here is the quote that has got me thinking.  “It should be remembered that the will is not the Creative Faculty in us.  It is the faculty of Conception that is the creative agent, and the business of the will is to keep that faculty in the right direction, which will be determined by an enlightened Reason.  Conception creates ideas which are the seed, that in due time, will produce fruit after its own kind.”

I believe Imagination is therefore the place of conception.  The Will is simply the director, the focusing agent.

Troward continues; “An Immaculate Conception” is therefore the only means by which the New Liberated Man can be born in each of us.  The sequence is always the same.  The Will holds the Conception together, and the idea thus formed gives direction to the working of the Law.”

There is a lot to think about here.  The will directs the imagination and the conception of the imagination that comes from that focus is the direction our life is to take.  As Troward says; “The New Liberated Man (in this way) can be born in each of us.”

Maintaining this intentional focus of the images generated by the imagination causes the real self to surface.

This is food for thought for me today.  I think I will reflect deeply on this today and seek to implement this in my life so that my person may indeed sound through.

A thought for the day.

Peace

Norm

Vibes Sound Through Whether YOU Say A Word or Not

March 11, 2009

heaves-tell-the-glory-of-godToday, I choose to reflect on Psalm 19 as it applies to the concept of “cause” and “effect”.

“The Heavens are telling the glory of God;

and the firmament proclaims His/Her handiwork.

Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.

There is no speech, nor are there words;

Their voice is not heard;

yet their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end to the world.”

Note, there is no sound coming from the heavens yet, the psalmist states, that there is a message.  Isn’t that like our ‘vibration’.  I mean the word persona means to “sound through”.

so I ask; do we not sound through enven though we don’t say a word?

Is there not something vibrating in me that sends a message without words?  (to me and to others?)

Right now, stop!

L-i-s-t-e-n!

Do you not sense the vibration coming from you and going out?

Is there not something, sounding through?

Is not your persona speaking?

As the psalmist says, the heavens (what is playing in your mind and heart) are telling something.

Is that something the glory of God or is it your cares and concerns, fears and doubts?

What vibration do you choose or ‘select’?

Know that you are pouring forth some sort of speech just by being here.

The psalmist continues: “In the heavens God has set a tent for the sun,

which comes forth like a bridegroom  leaving his chambers, and

like a strong man running its course with joy.

Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and

its circuit is to the end of them; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.”

So are not you and I like the sun?  Our vibe is felt wherever we go in the course of the day.  The people we meet, the things we do are affected by the vibe we are putting out, even in an unconscious way.

The trajectory of our day, unlike the joy of the sun in the psalm, might be somewhat ‘crappy’ in comparison.

Yet the heavens, that is, our minds and hearts are the source level and  are the cause of all the effects of our day.

So what am I selecting for my day?  Where am I right now?  What do I want?  I may have a lot more to do with the effects of my day than is evident.

I have the power to ‘select’ and then to submit to Spirit my intention and like the sun walk the course of my day from morning til night vibrating whatever is vibrating in me beyond words.

Something to think about.

The heavens are telling the Glory of God: or are they?

Peace

Norm
